The 28-year-old musician was photographed with a distinctive long red stripe inked on her left hand. The tattoo, which is seldom seen, holds deep sentimental value for the Royals singer. She previously revealed that it commemorates her late dog, Pearl, who passed away in 2019. The red line replicates a scratch Pearl gave her as a puppy—a permanent reminder of their bond.
For the studio visit, Lorde kept her look casual yet stylish, wearing a simple sleeveless white top with jeans. Her hair was worn in loose waves, and she embraced a natural beauty look with minimal makeup.
Lorde has spoken openly about the profound impact Pearl had on her life and music. In 2019, she credited the late pet for shaping much of her third album’s creative direction. In an emotional newsletter to fans, she explained how Pearl’s passing delayed the project’s release and deeply affected her personally.
Opening the letter, Lorde addressed her absence from social media and the online updates that once connected her with fans.
“When we first met I would write little notes for you online, and they would form a big map that you would use to chart the constellations in my work,” she wrote. “I realised a couple of years ago that I needed to rethink my relationship with posting random stuff online all the time, so here we are, a little less in contact than we once were.”
Reflecting on her time with Pearl, she described the joy and meaning the dog brought into her life.
“As anyone who has had the pleasure of raising a dog can understand, my life grew exponentially. Pearl brought an immeasurable amount of joy and purpose into my world,” she said.
Lorde also detailed the emotional challenges of caring for Pearl, who suffered from a difficult-to-diagnose illness throughout their time together. After a concerning weight loss, specialists identified the issue and began treatment. However, Pearl’s health suddenly deteriorated.
“One day we woke up and I knew, in that way mothers do, that he was sicker than we had realised, and that we were nearing a point where his body wasn’t going to be able to cope,” she wrote.
Pearl suffered two cardiac arrests within an hour. Lorde was holding him when he passed.
“I knew he knew that I was there,” she added. “But this loss has been indescribably painful, and a light that was turned on for me has gone out.”
