A 47-year-old man was taken into custody early this morning after Hong Kong police discovered a small quantity of suspected drugs hidden in his vehicle during a routine traffic check in Tsim Sha Tsui.
At approximately 2:00 AM, officers conducting patrols in the vicinity of 40 Cameron Road observed a private car driving along the double yellow lines, a clear traffic violation. Police immediately approached the vehicle and questioned the driver, who was later identified as a man surnamed Lee, aged 47. During the interaction, the driver displayed suspicious and evasive behavior, which prompted further investigation.
A search of the vehicle was carried out, during which officers found approximately 1 gram of a substance suspected to be K drugs. The drugs were hidden near the driver’s side door handle, along with several packaging bags commonly used for drug distribution. In addition to the illegal substances, no further contraband was discovered during a subsequent search aided by specially trained police dogs.
The driver, who is reported to have tattoos, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of “possession of dangerous drugs.” The estimated street value of the seized drugs is around HK$500.
Authorities have confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and is being questioned regarding the origin and intended destination of the drugs. Police are continuing to investigate the case and have warned that similar operations will continue as part of their ongoing efforts to combat drug-related offenses in the city.
This arrest follows a recent series of drug-related incidents in Hong Kong, as law enforcement remains vigilant in their efforts to reduce illegal drug activity.
