Actress Dakota Johnson is honoring the memory of her late dog, Zeppelin, with a meaningful addition to her tattoo collection.
The Materialists star, known for her affinity for subtle and symbolic tattoos, revealed during a recent interview with MTV that she is planning new ink in memory of her 17-year-old dog, who passed away in December.
“I did want to get a tattoo while I was here, but I haven’t had time,” Johnson said. “My dog, who was 17, is no longer with us, so I was gonna get a little Zeppelin thing.”
Although Johnson is still finalizing the design, she shared that it will likely be a minimalist tribute — possibly a small “Z” — rather than a more literal depiction. “The cremation place — isn’t that crazy that I cremated him? — they gave me a little paw print of his, which I would never get tattooed,” she added. “But maybe like a little Z or something.”
Johnson described Zeppelin as “the love of her life” and candidly spoke about the emotional toll of the loss, saying that life has felt “bleak” without him.
Despite the heartbreak, the actress recently welcomed a new companion into her life — a rescue dog named Tokyo.
“We rescued her on Saturday from the Santa Barbara pound,” Johnson shared on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast. “I didn’t plan on it… I had a dog for 17 years and I thought, ‘It’s going to be a while.’ But then I saw her and… she’s like an angel!”
Johnson, who already has more than a dozen tattoos, often chooses body art with personal significance. Her planned tribute to Zeppelin is expected to be no exception.
