On Friday, June 13, Chipotle will debut its first-ever collection of branded temporary tattoos, inspired by memes that compare real tattoos to the artwork on the company’s takeout bags. The limited-edition release includes 13 flash tattoo designs that pay homage to the brand’s signature elements, such as real ingredients, the black plastic fork, its minimalist water cup, and the well-known catchphrase “Chipotle is my life.”
The temporary tattoos will be distributed exclusively at 13 select Chipotle locations between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. local time, while supplies last. Customers must make an in-restaurant purchase to receive the giveaway. The locations include restaurants in Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Columbus, Denver, La Jolla, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Portland, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Scottsdale.
National BOGO Offer for Inked Fans
Coinciding with the tattoo launch, Chipotle will also offer a nationwide buy-one-get-one (BOGO) deal at participating U.S. locations during the same one-hour window on June 13. The promotion is open to all guests who are “tatted like a Chipotle bag”—whether with permanent tattoos, temporary designs, or even hand-drawn ink. Each eligible guest may receive up to five free menu items per check, provided they purchase an entrée of equal or greater value.
“On the biggest day of the year for tattoos, we are honoring our bold superfans who have artwork reminiscent of the designs on Chipotle’s takeout bags,” said Stephanie Perdue, Vice President of Brand Marketing. “Fans who aren’t ready to embark on their permanent tattoo journey can try out our 13 new temporary designs and enjoy a BOGO entrée.”
Meme Culture Meets Marketing
The phrase “tatted like a Chipotle bag” gained traction during the 2019 professional football championship halftime show, when social media users compared a singer’s tattoos to Chipotle’s bag artwork. The viral moment sparked a wave of fan-generated content, some of which featured real Chipotle-themed tattoos.
The campaign builds on Chipotle’s recent history of fan-centric product launches. In 2023, the company unveiled a “Car Napkin Holder” for customers who hoard napkins in their vehicles. More recently, the chain celebrated National Fork Day with its “Extra Fork Collection,” paying tribute to the brand’s cult following around its distinctive utensils.
Additional Promotion Details
The flash tattoo sheets are limited to one per customer, and are available only with regular-price entrée purchases—kids’ meals are excluded. The offer is not valid for online, mobile, or delivery orders. All tattoos distributed during the promotion are while supplies last.
The BOGO deal is also valid for in-restaurant purchases only and cannot be combined with other promotions or offers. Tattoo eligibility is subject to restaurant staff discretion and includes any visible tattoo—real, temporary, or artistically drawn.
