A violent inmate with a Satanic ‘666’ tattoo on his neck has been sentenced to an additional 40 months in prison for slashing the neck of another prisoner using a makeshift razor weapon.
Alan Brown, 43, ambushed fellow remand prisoner John Lizanec at Perth Prison on 17 September 2021. The attack occurred in the B-Hall stairwell, where Brown used a homemade blade to cut Lizanec’s neck before kicking him in the back as he tried to escape.
Brown—described in court as a persistent criminal known for targeting vulnerable victims such as priests, children, and war veterans—was also under the influence of homemade alcohol brewed in his cell during the night prior to the attack.
Lizanec was awaiting trial at the time for the brutal murder of his estranged wife, Michelle. He has since been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 24 years.
In addition to the jail term, Perth Sheriff Court imposed a 12-month supervised release order, citing Brown’s continued risk to public safety.
Fiscal Depute Emma Farmer told the court that the assault was unprovoked and premeditated. Lizanec, emerging from his cell at around 9:30 a.m., was ascending the stairwell when he saw Brown standing at the top. Brown suddenly lunged, slashing his neck with the razor before attacking him further.
Brown also pled guilty to additional charges, including a break-in at a Perth charity hub and a separate incident in which he staged a one-man siege inside his prison cell, claiming it had been rigged with electricity.
The court heard that Brown’s criminal record spans decades, and he has gained infamy as one of Scotland’s most dangerous and unpredictable offenders.
