G-Dragon to Launch International Leg of Digital Art Exhibition

by Jessica

G-Dragon, global K-pop icon and leader of BIGBANG, is set to take his immersive digital art exhibition “Übermensch” abroad, beginning with a high-profile showcase in Shanghai, China later this month.

Titled “G-Dragon Media Exhibition: Übermensch,” the exhibition will be held at Taikoo Li Qiantan, a major shopping and cultural hub in Shanghai’s Qiantan International Business District, from May 30 to June 22, organizers Creative Mut and Galaxy Corporation announced Monday. Additional international dates and venues will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The event marks a historic first, as G-Dragon becomes the first K-pop artist to hold a media exhibition in China, signaling a possible easing of the country’s years-long unofficial ban on Korean cultural exports.

Spanning four floors of the venue, the exhibition offers a multisensory exploration of the themes behind G-Dragon’s third full-length album, Übermensch. Originally unveiled in March at The Hyundai Seoul, the exhibit includes floral installations, holographic art, augmented-reality performances, and interactive spaces inspired by his track “Too Bad” featuring Anderson .Paak.

Among the key highlights is a striking 7-meter daisy installation, which captivated visitors in Seoul and will also be featured in Shanghai.

Tickets will go on sale via Alipay and Douyin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, providing fans a rare opportunity to engage with the artist’s conceptual world up close.

G-Dragon is currently on his “Übermensch” world tour, with performances scheduled in Bulacan (Philippines), Osaka (Japan), Macau, Hong Kong, Taipei (Taiwan), Bangkok, and Sydney (Australia). More dates are expected to be added soon.

The Shanghai exhibition is one of several recent signs of warming cultural ties between South Korea and China. In April, Korean hip-hop trio Homies performed in Wuhan, while singer Kim Jae-joong held a fan meeting in Chongqing. The Dream Concert, one of South Korea’s largest K-pop events, is also slated to be held in Hainan Province this September.

However, uncertainties remain. EPEX, a rising K-pop boy band, had their May 31 concert in China abruptly canceled, reportedly due to local issues, highlighting that the policy shift may still be tentative.

Still, G-Dragon’s exhibition represents a major cultural milestone—and a hopeful sign for fans eager to see more Korean artists return to China’s stage.
