Waldoboro Artist’s Lifelong Dream to Tattoo Comes True

by Jessica

For Michael Creamer, a talented artist from Waldoboro, tattooing is not just about creating art—it’s about trust, creativity, and collaboration.

Creamer recently opened Riverside Tattoo in Jefferson Street, fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a tattoo artist. After receiving his Maine tattoo license in February, Creamer wasted no time setting up his shop. The move marks the realization of a passion he has carried since childhood. “I’ve always had a passion for art, painting, different stuff,” he shared. Although he initially stepped away from his art to focus on family life and work, Creamer’s love for creativity remained strong. He worked as a certified welder and is currently a robot specialist at Fisher Engineering in Rockland. However, after deciding to quit drinking and finding more free time, he returned to his roots and embraced tattooing.

At Riverside Tattoo, Creamer has created a welcoming atmosphere for clients, ensuring they feel comfortable throughout the process. “The stereotypical tattoo shop, you go in and people are kind of nervous. I don’t want that for this. My goal here is that people can feel comfortable,” he said, emphasizing a relaxed, home-like environment.

Tattooing, for Creamer, is an interactive process that involves constant communication between the artist and the client. While many clients come with their own ideas or reference images, Creamer works collaboratively with them to refine the designs. He is dedicated to ensuring that the final result not only meets the client’s vision but is also practical as a tattoo. “I’m going to try to steer you in the right direction of what will look good,” he said, showcasing his professional expertise.

Creamer has a particular passion for realistic and black-and-white tattoos but also enjoys experimenting with other styles and colors. He strives to add his personal touch to every design, while always considering the client’s preferences and the permanence of the art. “It’s your skin, you’re going home with it,” he remarked, recognizing the importance of his craft.

Despite the responsibility of placing permanent artwork on someone’s body, Creamer sees this as an opportunity to help people express themselves and share his artistry. Knowing that his work travels with clients around the world is a source of pride. Looking forward, Creamer hopes to expand Riverside Tattoo by partnering with other local artists. Ultimately, his dream is to make tattooing his full-time profession.

For Creamer, this new chapter is just the beginning of a lifelong artistic journey that combines creativity, passion, and collaboration with his community.
