‘Yorkshire Vet’ Star Jean Green, 73, Surprises Husband With First Tattoo in New Spin-Off

by Jessica

In a heartwarming and unexpected twist, The Yorkshire Vet star Jean Green, 73, left her 96-year-old husband Steve stunned after revealing her first-ever tattoo during the filming of the couple’s new spin-off series, At Home With The Greens.

The tattoo, a Yorkshire Rose, was unveiled to the delight—and shock—of her longtime partner. Helping orchestrate the surprise was Jean’s close friend and series regular Peter Wright, who accompanied her on the tattoo adventure.

“Stephen had told his daughter, Sarah, that if she ever came home with a tattoo, she’d be kicked out,” Wright recalled, referencing Steve’s traditionally conservative views. “I don’t think he’d have followed through—he’s such a gentle man—but when Jean came home with that tattoo, his face was a picture. You could see the cogs turning.”

The Greens, known as Britain’s oldest farming couple on television, have been married for more than 40 years and are beloved by viewers for their authenticity and charm. The couple operate Stoneybrough Farm in Thirsk and have featured on The Yorkshire Vet for years, forming a strong on-screen bond with Peter Wright, who first met them in 1982 as a young vet.

“I’ve always loved visiting their farm,” Peter shared. “Jean’s full of life, always dressed in colorful sweatshirts and jangling silver bracelets. And Steve—he might seem quiet, but there’s more going on under the surface.”

In a touching glimpse into their enduring romance, Peter recalled how Steve would write poetry to Jean during their early days together, often penning verses while sitting alone on his tractor in the fields. One of those handwritten poems resurfaced decades later when the couple renewed their vows on their 40th anniversary.

“Stephen pulled a poem from his pocket on that day—it was so genuine and lovely,” Peter said.

Their close relationship was further underscored during filming, when Jean had to spend a night in hospital—marking the first time the couple had ever spent a night apart in their marriage. “It just shows how close they are,” Peter said. “They’ve never had cross words, just joy and laughter. It sounds corny, but it’s true.”

As local celebrities, the Greens have developed a loyal fan base. Jean, in particular, enjoys their growing recognition, enthusiastically tracking weekly viewership numbers and delighting in the many parcels they receive from admirers around the world.

“We get all sorts—oven gloves, coffee, calendars, even kangaroo pouches,” Peter laughed. “Jean loves it. For her, not knowing what’s inside the parcel is half the fun.”

At Home With The Greens offers a personal look into the lives of two of Yorkshire’s most cherished characters, with Jean’s bold new tattoo only adding to the couple’s endearing story.
