Nicholas Choy, a local tattoo artist, was once again denied bail on Friday as he reappeared before Magistrate Annette Singh at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. Choy faces serious charges of breaking and entering and larceny following an alleged burglary at the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) daycare and preschool facility earlier this month.
The charge stems from an incident reported to have taken place on Monday, May 12, at the YWCA premises located on Croal Street, Brickdam, Georgetown. According to the prosecution, Choy is accused of unlawfully entering the facility and removing a substantial quantity of items, all property of the organization.
Among the items allegedly stolen were one microwave oven valued at $37,000, an industrial fan worth $25,000, three double-bed mattresses with a combined value of $54,000, and a water dispenser valued at $25,000. Also reported missing were one roll of garbage bags worth $1,200, a JBL speaker priced at $31,000, a small fan valued at $9,000, a garbage bin worth $19,000, and various school supplies totaling $77,000. The total value of the stolen goods is estimated at $277,200.
The court heard that the burglary had a significant impact on the daily operations of the YWCA facility, which provides early childhood education and care services to the community. Prosecutors emphasized the gravity of the alleged crime, arguing against bail on the grounds of public interest, potential flight risk, and the need to ensure the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
Magistrate Singh upheld the prosecution’s objections and ordered that Choy remain in custody until further proceedings. No plea was entered, and the case has been adjourned pending additional legal review and disclosure of evidence.
This is not the first time Choy has appeared in court in connection with this case, and his continued remand signals the court’s cautious stance amid rising concerns over property-related crimes in the capital. The next hearing date has not yet been publicly disclosed.
