TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie recently revealed a new tattoo with a deeply personal touch — it was designed by her two children, Vale, 10, and Charley, 8.
Guthrie shared the story behind the ink during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, explaining that the tattoo commemorates the release of her new children’s book, Mostly What God Does Is Love You. The moment was spontaneous, she said, prompted by Barrymore herself.
“Drew said, ‘Do you want to get tattoos?’ I said, ‘Sure!’ And then we did it,” Guthrie recounted.
The simple yet meaningful tattoo features two small hearts, each created by one of her children. “I just want to say my little boy did one of the hearts and Vale did the other,” she said, beaming during the TODAY show segment on March 11 when she unveiled the design to her colleagues.
“It’s so great. Really pretty,” said co-host Jenna Bush Hager, while Dylan Dreyer responded with an affectionate “Aww.”
This marks the second time Guthrie and Barrymore have gotten tattoos together. In 2023, the longtime friends each got inked to celebrate their bond. Guthrie chose a design featuring the words “all my love” — a faithful reproduction of her late father’s handwriting from a letter he had once written to her mother.
“This is an exact carbon copy of my father’s handwriting,” she explained at the time. “It’s the first time in my life — I’m 51 years old — that I’ve had a tattoo, that I ever wanted a tattoo.”
She added that the phrase had become a guiding mantra: “Not only is his writing with me, but it’s something I try to live by.”
The warm moment sparked playful banter among the TODAY cast, with Hager — who is the godmother to Guthrie’s daughter Vale — jokingly expressing mock jealousy over Guthrie’s continued tattoo adventures with Barrymore.
“I just got another piercing with Scarlett Johansson,” Hager quipped, pretending to call the actress, who recently appeared on TODAY with Jenna & Friends for an on-air ear piercing segment.
“She’s so mad,” Guthrie laughed in response, playing along with the light-hearted exchange.
