Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo to Make Historic Return to Brisbane in 2025

by Jessica

Brisbane is set to host one of the world’s most renowned military and cultural spectacles, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, in early 2025. The event will be held at Suncorp Stadium on February 12 and 14, marking the first time the tattoo has visited Queensland in a major way.

This highly anticipated performance will feature over 1,000 artists and is expected to inject an impressive $39 million into the Queensland economy. The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, an iconic event deeply rooted in Scottish tradition, is known for its dramatic displays of massed pipes and drums, Highland dance, and military precision.

Originally held annually at Edinburgh Castle, the tattoo has grown significantly over the past 75 years. It has become a global phenomenon, with performances in over 50 countries and an annual audience of more than 230,000 in Scotland, in addition to reaching over 100 million viewers worldwide through international broadcasts. Previous Australian tours in Sydney (2005, 2010, 2019) and Melbourne (2016) have attracted large crowds, and now, Brisbane will be the exclusive Australian stop on the tattoo’s 75th anniversary tour.

This year’s performance, themed The Heroes Who Made Us, will highlight the rich history of the tattoo while celebrating local heroes. It is only the fourth time the event has visited Australia since its inception in 1950.

Andrew Powell, Minister for Environment and Tourism, also emphasized the event’s significance. “The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo will be one of the most popular events Queensland has ever hosted, drawing both locals and interstate visitors,” Powell said. “Such a large-scale event provides tremendous economic opportunities for local businesses, retailers, and the hospitality sector.”

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo’s Queensland debut promises to be a landmark occasion, offering a unique cultural experience and strengthening the state’s position as a major player in international event tourism.
