A 29-year-old man was shot dead at a tattoo shop in Ferozepur, Punjab, in a targeted attack that took place around 3 p.m. on Tuesday near Makhu Gate. The victim, identified as Ashu Monga, a resident of Basti Balochan Wali, was killed on the spot after assailants opened fire inside the shop.
According to police sources, four men arrived at the tattoo shop pretending to be customers. Once inside, they dragged the shop owner outside before turning their guns on Monga, who was still inside. The attackers fired multiple rounds, fatally wounding the victim.
A video that has since gone viral on social media shows one of the suspects firing at Monga with pistols in both hands, while another assailant shoots into the air outside the shop, causing panic among bystanders.
Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu confirmed that the incident stemmed from an ongoing enmity between Monga and the assailants. The two had reportedly had a verbal dispute a few days before the attack. Monga was also known to have a criminal background, with a previous case registered against him under the Arms Act.
“We have identified the assailants, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend them,” said SSP Sidhu. The attackers fled the scene in a car, scooter, and motorcycle, with the vehicle used in the crime reportedly belonging to the victim.
Further investigations revealed that several of the suspects had prior criminal records.
Monga, the youngest of three brothers, leaves behind his wife and a six-month-old daughter. Authorities are continuing their efforts to track down the suspects involved in the murder.
