The Sawdust City Tattoo Invitational is set to return to Eau Claire from June 13–15, 2025, bringing an expanded roster of acclaimed tattoo artists and new event features to The Brewing Projekt. Following a successful debut last year, organizer Shannon Nordin, who also owns Old North Tattoo on North Barstow Street, says the community’s response was overwhelmingly positive.
“Artists were expressing interest in returning, and attendees couldn’t wait to see what future events would bring,” Nordin shared. “Many people were surprised by the high caliber of artists who traveled to our area.”
This year’s event continues the Invitational’s mission to spotlight the artistry and diversity of modern tattooing, while fostering community engagement. A major new addition for 2025 is an opening night art show on June 12, where attendees can view the attending artists’ off-skin work. “It’s a chance for people to make a more personal connection with artists before deciding to get tattooed,” Nordin said.
The 2025 lineup features 21 tattoo artists from seven states, selected for their distinctive styles and artistic contributions. Among them are Jake Hodson, known for his precise fine-line technique, and Horisora, a traditionally trained Japanese Tebori artist. The lineup also includes artists from the LGBTQIA+ community and even one from Florence, Italy, further underscoring the event’s commitment to diversity and global artistry.
“Every artist is hand-selected based on unique characteristics that make them stand out in their disciplines,” Nordin emphasized.
Those interested in receiving a tattoo at the event are encouraged to book ahead. While walk-ups are welcome, appointments are recommended to secure time with a preferred artist.
Beyond the ink, the Invitational will offer informal opportunities for visitors to engage with artists, fostering a relaxed atmosphere where conversations and connections can flourish.
Reflecting on last year’s success, Nordin praised the enthusiastic support from both locals and visitors. “Several attendees came from outside Eau Claire to see the show,” he noted. “As the city continues to grow, so does the appetite for rich cultural events and top-tier art.”
Looking ahead, Nordin hopes to expand the event’s scope to include public seminars and live music, and to welcome even more international talent. “We’re planning to grow the art show and bring in additional artists from around the world,” he said.
The Sawdust City Tattoo Invitational aims not only to celebrate body art, but also to cultivate a cultural experience rooted in creativity, community, and connection.
