In a recent interview, Jun, the owner of Newchoice Tattoo Studio in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, shared his inspiring journey in the world of tattoo artistry, revealing a deep passion for embracing Oriental styles and a humble attitude towards his fellow artists.
Jun’s introduction to the captivating realm of tattooing occurred in 2009, thanks to his mentor, Phong Ha. At that time, Jun had never imagined that tattooing could become his career path. However, driven by challenging family circumstances, he decided to seize the opportunity and work hard to better his future. This decision marked the beginning of his remarkable journey into the tattoo art universe.
When asked about other influences that shaped his artistic development, Jun disclosed that he is largely self-taught. Utilizing the vast resources of the internet, he not only learned various tattooing techniques but also improved his English language skills. Jun would frequently pose questions to himself about the intricacies of tattoo art and then search for answers online. A significant portion of his study time was dedicated to delving into Japanese art culture, especially Ukiyo-e prints. By closely studying and comparing these traditional art forms with the works of Japanese tattoo artists, Jun was able to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Oriental tattoo aesthetics, which has greatly influenced his own unique style.
Today, Jun stands as a testament to the power of determination and self-learning in the tattoo industry. Through his unwavering dedication and love for tattoo art, he has carved out a niche for himself in Ho Chi Minh City’s vibrant tattoo scene. Jun’s story serves as an inspiration to aspiring tattoo artists, showing that with passion, perseverance, and a willingness to learn, one can thrive in the competitive world of tattoo artistry while celebrating and promoting the beauty of Oriental styles.
