Dragon Ball Unveils Nearly 40-Year-Old Original Artwork of Bulma

by Jessica

The official Dragon Ball website has unveiled a rare piece of original artwork featuring Bulma, dating back to 1986. Released as part of the ongoing Toriyama Archives, the illustration was originally published in Weekly Shonen Jump #20 and showcases Bulma wielding a submachine gun with her signature confident grin.

The artwork features four vertical panels behind Bulma, with a focus on meticulous two-tone shading. A caption highlighted the piece’s intricate details: “From the camouflage design on the bikini top to the texture on Bulma’s hair and weapons, you wouldn’t think that only two colors are used. This piece is a perfect example of two-tone shading, highlighting the illustrator’s masterful technique and skill.”

As one of the franchise’s most iconic characters, Bulma has been central to Dragon Ball since its inception, serving as Goku’s first ally and playing a crucial role in the series’ storylines. Her impact extends beyond her technical genius and adventurous spirit, as she is also a pivotal figure in the Saiyan lineage through her family with Vegeta.

With Chapter 105 marking a new beginning under Toyotarou’s leadership, the franchise embarks on its next chapter, guided by the foundation Toriyama built.
