Since its modest beginnings in 2013 as a small gathering of four brands in a warehouse in Nordhavn, 3 Days of Design has rapidly evolved into one of the most influential events on the global design calendar. Back then, attendees mingled over craft beer and house music, surrounded by sofas, wondering if this intimate setup could signal the future of design fairs. Today, the event draws over 500 companies, studios, and designers from around the world, filling venues across eight districts of Copenhagen. Last year, the festival attracted approximately 45,000 visitors.
Industry insiders increasingly favor 3 Days of Design over traditional fairs, choosing the Danish capital for its unique blend of accessibility and atmosphere. With June’s warmer climate compared to Stockholm’s February chill, a more approachable vibe than Milan’s bustling April scene, and greater proximity to key markets than New York’s May offerings, the event checks all the boxes. Yet, its greatest achievement remains its sheer enjoyment factor. Unlike many trade fairs, 3 Days avoids the exhausting carnival-like atmosphere, allowing attendees to savor the midsummer sun while engaging meaningfully with business and culture.
Copenhagen itself plays a pivotal role in the event’s success. Known for its exemplary urban design and hospitality, the city offers a seamless backdrop where the festival harmonizes with local life rather than disrupts it. This integration is further enriched by Denmark’s deep-rooted design heritage, where design functions not just as a commercial enterprise but as a democratic cultural value—unlike in many other countries where it is often treated as a luxury commodity.
