WhatsApp has released its latest round of feature updates, introducing a range of enhancements designed to improve user interaction and customization within the app. The new tools include animated emojis, an in-app animated sticker maker, expanded avatar sticker options, and new functions for groups and channels.
Since April, WhatsApp has been publishing monthly feature summaries to keep its global user base informed of recent updates. The June release continues that practice, highlighting several new tools that aim to make conversations more dynamic and expressive.
Animated Emojis and Stickers
A key addition is the full rollout of animated emojis across all chats. While previously available in limited form, the expanded feature now allows a broader selection of emojis to animate directly within conversations, enhancing visual engagement.
Complementing this, WhatsApp has introduced an animated sticker maker, enabling users to convert personal videos into stickers. This feature functions similarly to a built-in GIF creator, allowing for quick and easy customization using video content stored on a user’s device.
Social Avatar Stickers
The platform is also building on its avatar features with the launch of combined social stickers. Users can now generate stickers that feature both their own avatar and that of a friend in a single image, designed for one-on-one chats. This feature expands on WhatsApp’s avatar functionality, which was first introduced two years ago.
Improved Group and Media Sharing Tools
In terms of group functionality, WhatsApp now allows users to create and personalize group chats before any members are added—streamlining the process of group setup and organization.
When sharing multiple images or videos, users can now include a shared caption, making bulk media posts more coherent and contextual.
Additional updates include new video chat filters and visual effects, giving users more creative control over how they present themselves during calls and in still image posts.
Channel Enhancements
For channel administrators, WhatsApp has added the ability to create polls that include images, enhancing interactive engagement. Another new feature allows users to tag favorite channel updates for easier reference later.
These updates are part of WhatsApp’s ongoing effort to refine the user experience and remain competitive in the evolving landscape of messaging apps.
