Young Thug has responded publicly to a viral post revealing that fellow rapper Gunna had covered his “YSL” tattoo — a move interpreted by many as a symbolic distancing from the embattled YSL collective. The image, originally shared by Our Generation Music, prompted Thug to comment, “I mean… he said it must end lol,” adding fuel to ongoing speculation about tensions within the group.
The reaction comes amid the ongoing fallout from Gunna’s plea deal in the YSL RICO case. In December 2022, the “Pushin P” rapper entered an Alford plea, which allowed him to plead guilty to a racketeering charge while maintaining his innocence — a legal strategy designed to avoid a potentially harsher sentence. He was sentenced to five years, with one year commuted to time served and the remaining four suspended, alongside 500 hours of community service.
Gunna addressed the plea at the time, insisting he did not cooperate with prosecutors:
“I love and cherish my association with YSL music, and always will. I look at this as an opportunity to give back to my community and educate young men and women that gangs and violence only lead to destruction.”
Despite his statements, Gunna has been the target of heavy criticism, with some in the hip-hop community branding him a “snitch.” These accusations have lingered, particularly as Young Thug — still facing trial — remains at the center of the RICO indictment.
In an interview with GQ last month, Thug was asked about his current relationship with Gunna. His coy response only deepened the mystery:
“Yeah, I know. Everybody wondering that.”
Thug also appeared to address the controversy in his recent single “Money on Money,” featuring Future. In the track, he raps:
followed by:
“Brother, you a rat (my brother),” and
“Twin, you a rat, you smoked, uh.”
These lyrics — coupled with the social media jab — suggest a fracture between the two rappers who once stood at the forefront of the YSL movement.
With Thug’s legal battle still ongoing and Gunna working to reclaim his musical momentum, the future of their relationship — and YSL as a whole — remains uncertain.
