Gunna Covers YSL Tattoo Amid Ongoing Rumors of Rift With Young Thug

by Jessica

Speculation continues to swirl around the relationship between rappers Gunna and Young Thug, following Gunna’s decision to cover a prominent YSL (Young Stoner Life) tattoo — a move fans interpret as a possible sign of division within the Atlanta-based music collective.

Both artists were among more than two dozen individuals indicted in a sweeping 56-count RICO case in 2022, which accused members of YSL of gang-related activity. While Young Thug remains behind bars awaiting trial, Gunna secured his release after accepting a plea deal in December 2022. His decision was met with backlash from parts of the hip-hop community, including accusations of cooperating with authorities — claims Gunna has publicly denied.

In a rare interview with GQ published in April, Young Thug offered a cryptic response when asked about his current relationship with Gunna. “I know everybody wondering that,” he said. “I don’t know.” The ambiguity did little to quell speculation of a rift between the former collaborators.

Fueling further rumors, Young Thug recently released the track “Money On Money” featuring Future. A line in the song — “These fk n*as telling for nothing, and I got to be the one calling them friend” — is widely believed by fans to be a veiled jab at Gunna, though no direct confirmation has been made.

Online observers also noted that Gunna appears to have been quietly removed from YSL’s official digital platforms, a significant change given his prior prominence within the label.

Music commentator DJ Akademiks added to the controversy during a livestream, claiming to have insider knowledge about the situation. “Thug still hates him,” he alleged. “I’m telling y’all what’s happening in the board meetings, what’s happening behind the scenes.” He further claimed that Young Thug sent voice memos disparaging Gunna and is actively seeking his removal from the YSL roster.

“It ain’t up to us why he hate him,” Akademiks said. “But Thug wanted this na off the fing label.”

Neither Gunna nor Young Thug has directly addressed the rumored fallout. However, the symbolic act of concealing the YSL tattoo — once a clear sign of allegiance — has intensified speculation about a growing divide.
