Patriotism Inked: ‘Sindoor’ Tattoos Gain Popularity

by Jessica

In a powerful display of patriotism, college students and youth in Hampi and Hosapete are proudly getting the word ‘Sindoor’ tattooed on their arms, inspired by India’s recent military action, Operation Sindoor, against terrorist targets in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan’s interior.

The tattoo trend, initially sparked by local youth, has rapidly gained popularity. Foreign tourists, particularly from Israel, have also embraced the movement, getting ‘Sindoor’ tattoos as a gesture of respect for India’s military response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack in late April.

Local tattoo parlours are witnessing a surge in business, with prices ranging from Rs 600 to Rs 1,500, depending on the tattoo’s size and customization. Ganesh N, a tattoo artist from the area, noted that the color and shading of the tattoo are often adjusted to complement individual skin tones.

A Symbol of Pride and Solidarity

For many youngsters, the ‘Sindoor’ tattoo has become more than a fashion statement—it’s a lasting symbol of national pride. Akash Nayak (17), proudly sporting his new tattoo, shared his motivation:
“Operation Sindoor showed the world the might of the Indian Army. I wanted to join the Army but couldn’t. This tattoo is my way of standing with my country. It’s permanent—this one is for India.”

Another youth, Ravi from Hampi, echoed similar sentiments.
“I felt goosebumps when I got ‘Sindoor’ tattooed. This is my tribute to our soldiers. My Israeli friend, after hearing the story behind ‘Sindoor’, was so moved that he rushed to get his own tattoo as well.”

Tattooist Ganesh confirmed the rising demand:
“Over the past week, I’ve seen a huge influx of people asking for patriotic tattoos. ‘Sindoor’ is, by far, the most requested design.”

Political Response: Parliament Session Demanded

Meanwhile, the political ramifications of Operation Sindoor continue to unfold. Addressing the media in Kalaburagi, AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge urged the Prime Minister to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the operation and the current ceasefire with Pakistan.

Kharge emphasized the need for transparency and dialogue, suggesting that Parliament or an all-party meeting is the appropriate platform for such discussions.
“All opposition parties have expressed their support for the government’s actions. The Centre should reciprocate by taking all parties into confidence,” he stated.

When questioned about former US President Donald Trump’s claim that his intervention prompted the ceasefire, Kharge remarked that such serious matters should be addressed in Parliament, rather than through unofficial channels.

As the nation reflects on the success of Operation Sindoor, the youth of Hampi and Hosapete are ensuring its legacy lives on—etched not just in history, but quite literally, on their skin.
