Peoria Tattoo Shop Owner Arrested for Allegedly Sending Explicit Messages to a Minor

by Jessica

A Peoria tattoo shop owner is facing multiple felony charges after police allege he sent sexually explicit messages to a minor through social media platforms.

Mario E. Davis, 34, was arrested on Tuesday, June 3, following an investigation led by the Peoria Police Department. Davis faces charges of grooming, indecent solicitation of a child, and filing a false police report — all stemming from allegations that he initiated inappropriate online communication with a minor.

Investigation Prompted by Concerned Parent

According to a statement released by the Peoria Police Department, the investigation began on February 12, when the parent of the alleged victim contacted authorities after discovering explicit messages sent to their child via social media. Investigators acted quickly, launching a digital forensic analysis that included the examination of several social media accounts and private messages.

Detectives then secured and executed multiple search warrants, which led to the collection of key digital evidence believed to support the allegations. The results of that analysis ultimately led police to identify Davis as the suspect behind the messages.

Business Ties and Arrest Location

On Tuesday, Davis was taken into custody without incident in the 7700 block of North Grand Prairie Drive — a location that matches the registered address of a local tattoo business. According to business filings with the Illinois Secretary of State, Davis is listed as the owner of Black Ink Supply LLC, which is associated with the address 7714 North Grand Prairie Drive, home to InkCapital Tattoos, a well-known establishment in the area.

It is currently unclear whether the alleged misconduct occurred at the business premises or was strictly limited to online activity. Police have not released details about the content or nature of the messages, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation and the age of the alleged victim.

Community Reaction and Public Safety Concerns

The arrest has drawn concern from community members, particularly those familiar with InkCapital Tattoos. As a locally operated business with a public-facing profile, the charges have raised questions about trust, safety, and the vetting of individuals in positions of influence.

Parents and guardians are being urged to monitor their children’s digital activity and report any suspicious communication to authorities immediately. The case also underscores the importance of robust online safety practices for both minors and their families.

Ongoing Detention and Police Request for Information

Davis is currently being held at the Peoria County Jail. Prosecutors have not yet announced when he is expected to appear in court for arraignment.

Peoria police are continuing their investigation and are asking anyone with further information related to this case — or other possible victims — to come forward. Community members can contact the Peoria Police Department at (309) 673-4521, submit anonymous tips through Tip411, or reach out to Crime Stoppers at (309) 673-9000.

The Peoria Police Department emphasized that all reports will be handled with discretion and that protecting the safety and privacy of minors is a top priority.
